Rouse Farm Plow Day - Draft Animal Power Event

Joe visits Rouse Farm in Seven Springs, North Carolina. Spot Rouse has always worked with mules. He started working with horses about 25 years ago. It is a hobby that has him providing horse drawn services at weddings, funerals, graduations, and birthday parties, in addition to farming uses.
The Spot Rouse field day brings out teamsters and draft animals as well as community members for a day of field work, music, food and fun. The North Carolina Work Horse and Mule Association, with over 400 members, brings many members to the event.
On the farm he raises turkeys, cattle and sows (furrowing operation). The field they are working is planted in millet in the summer and rye in the winter and is used to discharge the hog waste.
The event is filled with the background music of "The Grandpas", a local string band.
Joe shoots some great video of the Percherons, Belgians, mules, ponies pulling an assortment of horse-drawn implements. These include plows, discs, rollers pulled by single horses up to a six-horse team. Even one man and one horse pulling a walking plow.
