Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán - Fiesta en Jalisco (25th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza)

El mejor mariachi del mundo Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán performed their classic song “Fiesta en Jalisco” at the 25th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza. First released in 1970 as the featured track on Mariachi Vargas’ LP by the same name, “Fiesta en Jalisco” has become standard in the mariachi repertoire and is regularly played by groups throughout the world. The track itself is not one song but rather a compilation of various songs popular songs of the time.
The intro to Fiesta en Jalisco is a theme that the composer Manuel Esperón wrote for the mano-a-mano between the singers Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete at the Teatro Lírico. This intro, as far as anyone knows, has never been recorded anywhere else.
The pizzicato part that follows is from Jorge Negrete’s song “Así Se Quiere en Jalisco” written by Ernesto Cortazar and Manuel Esperón.
After that come the song “Cocula” which can be found on recordings by Jorge Negrete and that is succeeded by Lucha Reyes’s “Traigo un Amor”, both also by Cortazar/Esperón.
The next familiar theme which listeners will hear is Chucho Monge’s “México Lindo y Querido” followed by its climactic ending with a section of Esperón’s “Fiesta Mexicana.”
