Flood Chaos in Jalisco, Mexico Today: River Overflows in Zapotlanejo, Homes Flooded

A severe storm struck the town of Zapotlanejo in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, early Sunday morning, September 20. The river bearing the town's name overflowed; in some areas, the water level reached one and a half meters. The most severe impacts were felt at the town's entrance, in the El Plan neighborhood, and in the Ciudad Perdida area; neighbors organized themselves to try to rescue trapped families before official emergency crews arrived.

While Jalisco state authorities reported that approximately 46 homes were flooded, the Zapotlanejo Municipality estimates that 150–200 homes and businesses across the municipality were affected.
No injuries or deaths have been reported so far; it has been confirmed that the damage is limited to property loss. As cleanup efforts continue, the municipality announced that support packages for affected families will be announced once damage assessments are complete.
