When the leader of Mexico's most powerful cartel died, his youngest daughter did the unthinkable — she showed up at his funeral. In public. Despite being accused of serious crimes.
The Backstory:
Laisha Michelle Oseguera González, 23, is the youngest daughter of Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, the founder and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) — one of Mexico's most dangerous drug trafficking organizations.
El Mencho died on February 22, 2026. His funeral was held in Guadalajara on March 1, 2026, at a funeral home in the San Andrés neighborhood, under heavy military guard.
The Shocking Appearance:
Photos and videos leaked from the funeral showed a young woman with dyed blonde hair among the attendees. She was quickly identified as Laisha Oseguera González — El Mencho's youngest daughter.
Why She's Wanted:
In 2021, Laisha was accused by Mexico's Attorney General's Office of involvement in the kidnapping of two marines in Zapopan, Jalisco. The kidnapping was allegedly retaliation for her mother's arrest. She was 20 years old at the time.
The accusation was later dropped after the marines were released, and she obtained a provisional suspension preventing her arrest for crimes that don't require mandatory pre-trial detention. She later moved to Riverside, California, where she has kept a low profile.
The Reaction:
The images of her at the funeral went viral, sparking outrage and criticism over the impunity and inaction of Mexican authorities. Many questioned how a woman accused of kidnapping could appear so publicly without consequences.
